In a setting such as the Four Seasons Hotel Firenze, audio technology cannot simply deliver high performance: it must disappear. That was the challenge addressed at Palazzo del Nero, as part of the complexs exclusive renovation project, where every solution had to respect the historic value of the spaces, heritage preservation constraints and the sophisticated aesthetics of the interior design.

In a project of this kind, discretion is not a detail but an essential requirement. This is why K-array solutions found one of their most meaningful applications here: extremely compact systems capable of delivering sound quality, control and consistent coverage with minimal architectural impact. A result made possible through the joint work with Studio Sound Service, which handled the acoustic and electroacoustic design, and Nueva, the system integrator that turned the concept into an installation perfectly tailored to the spaces.

A collective effort in design, integration and technology

The project developed through months of coordination with mechanical and electrical designers as well as interior designers. In this process, the dialogue between the three key players proved decisive: Studio Sound Service led the definition of the acoustic and performance requirements, Nueva developed the installation and mechanical solutions needed to comply with the constraints of the site, while K-array provided audio technologies capable of combining invisibility, flexibility and performance. The shared goal was clear: to create a sound experience worthy of a luxury hospitality environment without interfering with the architectural reading of the spaces. In other words, the sound had to be perceived, but not the system itself.

Palazzo del Nero: sound integrated into architecture

The intervention involved the entire ground floor and the common areas of Palazzo del Nero, from the reception and the Sala delle Onde to the semi-circular outdoor areas and the external spaces, where comfort, privacy and audio quality had to coexist with impeccable aesthetics.

Already at the entrance of Palazzo del Nero, which also serves as a bar and lounge area for events and low-volume DJ sets, the design principle is evident: the Vyper-KV25 II loudspeakers in grey finish match the wall color and blend naturally into the environment, delivering a discreet yet refined sonic presence.

At the reception, Lyzard-KZ14 I units were integrated into the wood panelling, with a custom wood-effect RAL finish that makes them virtually invisible. In the corridor, the compact Lyzard-KZ1 I speakers cover the passage area according to the same principle: supporting the space without imposing visually.

In the breakfast rooms, Vyper-KV25 II loudspeakers were integrated into the elegant furnishings, working in harmony with the finishes and wallpaper while contributing to even sound distribution throughout the area. This solution made it possible to manage different usage scenarios, from refined background music to events requiring moderately higher sound pressure levels. The subwoofers, hidden beneath furniture and near the fan coils, reinforce the sonic performance while preserving the visual cleanliness of the spaces.

The same approach was extended to the areas opening onto the outdoor terrace and the garden. Here, the requirement was twofold: to use as few sound sources as possible while effectively covering the exterior areas as well. Installing the systems on the narrow window-frame uprights enhanced the architecture by avoiding invasive elements, while the compactness of the K-array systems made it possible to reduce the number of loudspeakers without sacrificing uniform coverage, fully consistent with the propertys luxury positioning.

For the outdoor subwoofers, two options were considered: floor placement at the base of the glass walls or installation at the top of the veranda. The second option was chosen for practical reasons related to the management of the outdoor spaces. Once again, the technology provided a precise answer: although exposed to the elements, the systems ensure reliability thanks to their weather-resistant features.

The entire system is managed over a Dante network, with amplification allowing remote zone control and signal routing according to the different functions of the spaces. Nuevas contribution was also crucial on the installation side: in order to recess the loudspeakers without creating cavities that were too deep, the integrator designed custom back boxes only slightly deeper than the Vyper units, allowing the speakers to be housed without using the integrated clips. It is a technical detail that says much about the precision with which the project was developed.

The Conventino: high performance in a monumental space

The most complex and fascinating part of the intervention is the Conventino, a former chapel characterised by a central nave and an apse, now transformed into a multifunctional space for events, banquets, conferences and entertainment.

Access is through a foyer that is also used as an entertainment area, and even here one of the projects central themes is clear: ensuring that the different spaces interact without creating sonic conflict. For this reason, the Conventino was acoustically treated both to guarantee isolation to and from the outside and to improve its internal response, which was made challenging by the naturally reverberant nature of the former chapel.

In this space, the installed system is derived from the Pinnacle-KR802 II, a solution that brought the performance of a line array into a historic environment with dimensions compatible with architectural constraints. Supporting it are two passive Thunder-KS4 I subwoofers, floor-mounted and finished in custom RAL, so as to blend chromatically with the surroundings.

The positioning of the loudspeakers was heavily influenced by heritage restrictions. To meet this limitation, the Kayman-KY102 units were suspended and aimed at the audience, reducing the amount of direct energy sent toward the ceiling while maintaining high sound pressure levels suitable even for more dynamic moments such as parties and evening events.

Here too, Nueva played an essential role: the integrator designed and built a custom suspension bracket system with a single hanging point, optimising the aiming angle and making possible a clean, effective installation fully compatible with the monumental setting.

For DJ sets, the system can be further complemented in the apse area with a pair of Python-KP102 I units used for monitoring. This solution further expands the flexibility of the space, confirming the projects ambition to combine elegance, adaptability and performance.

The result: technology in the service of beauty

Entering Palazzo del Nero today means experiencing an immediate sense of comfort. There are no visible cables, no visible machines, no intrusive panels. Instead, what is perceived is defined sound, balanced distribution, clear speech intelligibility and a background silence consistent with the hospitality experience the Four Seasons brand aims to deliver. The final result is not simply a well-executed sound system, but a rare balance of heritage, design, comfort and performance. It is a project in which technology does not call attention to itself, but works quietly to enhance everything around it.
