Old Westbury Private Residence

A luxury private residence in Old Westbury, New York, has been transformed into a fully integrated outdoor entertainment destination thanks to a K-array outdoor audio system designed to deliver premium sound across multiple living spaces. Combining high-performance loudspeakers with weather-resistant technology, the installation demonstrates how professional audio can enhance residential environments without compromising architectural aesthetics.

The sprawling estate features a resort-style pool, cabana lounge and bar, louvred pergola, spa terrace, tennis court, fire pits and multiple outdoor gathering areas. The challenge was to create a seamless audio experience that could support everything from quiet afternoons with family to large-scale outdoor entertaining, while preserving the visual character of the landscape.

Technology integration and system design were led by Architech Designs, working alongside The Laurel Group to coordinate infrastructure, loudspeaker placement and long-term usability throughout the ten-month project.

The decision to install a K-array audio system came early in the design process. After experiencing a portable demonstration on site, the homeowner immediately recognized the performance and aesthetic advantages of the solution. Rather than relying on a single distributed system, Architech Designs approached the property as a collection of independent listening zones, each optimized for the way the space would be used while remaining part of one cohesive audio ecosystem.

The estate's main pool deck serves as the primary entertainment space and required a system capable of delivering powerful yet controlled sound across a large outdoor area. The installation features four K-array Rumble-KU315 marine-grade subwoofers paired with four custom marine-grade Kayman-KY102 line array loudspeakers. Together, the system provides exceptional output, wide coverage and detailed sound reproduction while offering long-term resistance to weather, humidity and poolside conditions.

Adjacent to the pool, the louvred pergola creates a more intimate environment for outdoor dining and conversation. Four marine-grade Kobra-KK52 I loudspeakers are discreetly mounted to the pergola structure, delivering even coverage throughout the seating area, while a Rumble-KU212 subwoofer adds low-frequency extension without impacting the clean architectural design.

The outdoor cabana bar is equipped with two Vyper-KV52 I loudspeakers and a Rumble-KU210 subwoofer, providing focused, high-quality audio around the television viewing area while maintaining excellent intelligibility and musical detail.

The property's tennis court continues the distributed audio concept with four Domino-KF210 loudspeakers installed at each corner of the court. The system delivers balanced, consistent coverage across the playing surface, allowing background music to enhance the sporting experience without spilling excessively into surrounding outdoor spaces.

Because much of the equipment remains permanently exposed to the elements, weather resistance was a fundamental design requirement. The Rumble-KU315 subwoofers are marine-grade as standard, while the Kayman-KY102 and Kobra-KK52 I loudspeakers received a custom marine-grade finish specifically developed for this installation, ensuring long-term durability in demanding outdoor environments.

The result is a discreet professional audio solution that blends seamlessly into the property's architecture while providing consistent performance across every entertainment area.

Whether hosting a summer celebration, watching a movie by the pool, enjoying dinner beneath the pergola or relaxing in the spa, each zone maintains its own atmosphere while remaining connected to a unified audio experience designed around the homeowner's lifestyle.

Lead technician Christian Bautista summarized the project best: "What made this project cool is that this client genuinely cared about the experience. He didn't want great sound because somebody else had it; he wanted serious performance. And he got it."
